Ynys Lochtyn Circular Walk, Llangrannog

You’ll find some of the best views in Ceredigion during this circular walk and the spectacular outcrop called Ynys Lochtyn (translated to Lochtyn Island). On a clear day you can even see North Wales in the distance! 

Use this Google Maps link to find a small parking area in the village of Llangrannog (a beautiful covey beach-side village full of delicious eateries). Take the right hand side path through the gate away from the village, keeping the sea to your left. When you reach a fork in the path, we’d recommend using the path to the left through a gateway to reach a viewpoint with breathtaking views of Cardigan Bay, or once you’ve passed through the gate, head right and down the hill straight ahead. You’ll soon join a path which takes you left, skirting around Pen y Badell (the top of the hill) and within full view of the Ynys Lochtyn peninsula (we did warn you it was spectacular!). 

Walk down to the island to see the interesting rock formations on each side (be careful, the cliffs here are high) and you might spot a secret path down to the sea on the right side, when the tide is just right. 

Walk back up the hill to the path but now head right back to Llangrannog, keeping the sea to your right. Soon after, you’ll reach a fork – bear left and follow the path through a small farm and back to your car. 

Distance: Around 1.5 hours depending on how long you stop to take in the view! 

Tip: The large rock formation protruding out of the sea off Llangrannog beach is called Carreg Bica, which literally translates to Bica Rock. We can’t recommend the delicious pizzas in Tafell a Tan enough! And you’ll receive a warm welcome if you grab a drink in the Pentre pub.
